Savory Pie recipe for Christmas!

In my house, as in yours, Christmas has its own flavor.

I’ll unveil this family secret for you: a recipe of my Grandmother’s Savory Pie!
Put a Christmas song to get in the mood, set aside some time and prepare your Savory pie!



6 cups wheat flour
3 tablespoons of butter
6 tablespoons of lard
2 tablespoons salt
6 egg yolks

Mix the flour with the salt in a bowl and make a little hole in the middle.
In the middle, place the yolks, the lard and the butter.
Now just mix everything by hand! 
Yes, it’s a bit of a mess, but think how good it will be!
The right texture is and when it turns to a ball if you squeeze, but when crushing the ball it falls into thick crumbles.

Take a glass baking pot and spread the dough on the bottom with your fingers, making a not too thick crust.
Reserve the rest of the dough to cover and for the embellishments!

Fry garlic in olive oil, and remove the garlic, put 1 chopped onion to saute in the olive oil, add 1 can of peeled tomatoes and crush in the pan. Season with salt, pepper, basil and thyme.
Make the white sauce:
Melt 30 grams of butter in a pan, add 30 grams of flour and mix until yellow.
Add milk slowly, mixing until it forms a cream, season to taste.

Mix the red sauce with the white sauce and add palm hearts (preserved)!

Wait for the filling to cool to put on the dough, or the dough will melt.
Put the cold filling on the dough, and with the help of film paper open small pieces of dough to cover the whole filling.

Once covered, decorate with some Christmas-themed dough ornaments and bake for about 20 minutes.

After pre baking you can store in the refrigerator to take in the Christmas party or freeze to take away when you feel like it!
